YARR/Next Step Spring 2022 Virtual Campference

March 24 @ 12:00 am - March 26 @ 12:00 am

Next Step is hosting a FREE virtual Spring Campference in partnership with Young Adult Representative of RDLA (YARR) from Thursday, March 24th to Saturday, March 26th. This 3-day program is for teens and young adults, ages 18-29, living with a chronic illness or rare disease.

At our Spring Campference, you’ll engage in workshops with peers your age who are living with similar medical conditions. Together you’ll learn about the legislative process and how to engage in public policy in the United States. Our workshops will help you learn how to use your voice and have your voice heard as our country makes laws that impact your life.

Here is what you can expect:

  • Gain confidence in your sense of self.
  • Explore concrete skills to apply on a daily basis.
  • Meet new friends.
  • Connect with mentors who have walked in your shoes.

Since the campference will be virtual, workshops will primarily be facilitated in the evenings. Here is a quick look at the schedule:

  • Thursday
    • 4 – 5:30: Welcome & Introductions
    • 6:30 – 8:30: Opening Night – Tone Setting and Topic Introduction
    • 9 – 10: Community Hang (Optional)
  • Friday
    • 4 – 5:30: Workshop 1
    • 6:30 – 8:30: Workshop 2
    • 9 – 10: Community Hang (Optional)
  • Saturday
    • 1 – 3 PM: Workshop 3
    • 4 – 5:30 PM: Workshop 4
    • 6:30 – 8:30 PM: Closing & Final Celebration

If you’re interested in community engagement and are willing to step into your stretch zone, we hope to provide you with the tools to speak up for yourself, advocate for your own needs, and connect with other peers “who get it.” Sounds good? Fill out the application below!

About the Young Adult Representatives of RDLA

The Young Adult Representatives of RDLA (YARR) are a highly motivated group of rare disease community membersbetween 16 and 30 years old, including patient advocates, siblings, caregivers, and loved ones. The main purpose of Young Adult Representatives of RDLA (YARR) is to instill confidence in the next generation of rare disease advocates. We want to ensure that young adults have a growing impact on public policy in the rare space, offer skill-building opportunities to foster growth in each individual’s advocacy journey, and have diverse young adult representation across each state.
