Job opportunity at Next Step! We are looking to grow our Development Team and are searching for an Events and Grants Coordinator. Next Step is a non-profit in Cambridge that serves young people aged 16-29 living with serious illness including cancer, HIV and rare genetic disorders. Our mission is to support these young people as they move from “Why me?” to “What’s next? when considering their brightest future.


The person in this position will collaborate with Next Step staff, donors and volunteers and be a vital part of our fundraising efforts as our organization continues to serve even more teens and young adults living with a serious illness. Next Step is a team-oriented organization, with creative and forward-thinking leadership, a fun and energetic work environment with lots of room for growth.


Job Description: Events and Grants Coordinator

Full time. Salary: $45K. Includes 401K and Health Benefits.

Event Coordinator responsibilities:
o Creates and executes plan for each event including timeline, budget, assignments, and tasks for Next Step personnel, event committees and volunteers.

o Coordinates pre-event mailings, invitations, registration, and published materials including onsite marketing for the event.

o Coordinates event logistics, gift acknowledgement, auction logistics, and event reports and marketing.

o Utilizes special events to cultivate and strengthen relationships with individual and corporate donors. Follow up on relations established through event attendance, event auction purchases, committee references, and event sponsorships.

o Provide support with sponsorship strategies.

Grant Coordinator responsibilities:
o Identifies opportunities and writes grant proposals to obtain foundation and government funding for Next Step.

o Researches government agencies and charitable foundations whose philanthropic priorities might coincide with Next Step’s work.

o Proactively contacts these agencies and foundations and writes appropriate and timely proposals to each prospect.

o Maintains prospect database and calendar for submitting proposals.

o Provide support in donor letters, communications and other development efforts.
