You’re already making an impact this year. Because of your support, we welcomed over 20 new seriously ill young people into our community in January by taking our Next Step Mobile program directly to our partner sites in the Northeast.
The Next Step program team partnered with Dr. Kenneth Rivlin, at the Jacobi Medical Center, and Candice’s Sickle Cell Fund, in The Bronx in New York City. Together they created a safe space where seriously ill young people felt confident to discuss the challenges and some of their fears as they take their next steps in their medical journey. These discussions helped ease some of the anxiety that the young attendees felt around transferring into the adult healthcare system and equipped them with effective life skills to help them along the way.
“Watching these young adults open up and articulate their feelings was priceless. Thank you to all the parties that were involved. In 26 degree weather we were able to pique the interest of many and create memories for all. I look forward to continuing our work together to provide a better quality of life for this very special group of teens and young adults.”

The Next Step program team also hosted their first online Next Step Mobile program with the Hydrocephalus Association’s 20s Group. The focus of the program was centered around an Advocacy Mad Libs project, where seriously ill youth talked about how to, and how not to, get proper accommodations they need when it comes to completing school assignments.
Thank you for supporting our Next Step Mobile program. Because of you, even more seriously ill young people in treatment know they have a community where they belong at Next Step.
