Position: Regional Hub Coordinator

Position Location: Hybrid/NYC (with occasional travel to Boston, MA)

At Next Step, we are dedicated to supporting young people aged 13-29 living with chronic illnesses such as cancer, HIV, sickle cell, and other rare genetic conditions. Our mission is to empower them with the skills, tools, and knowledge to shift their mindset from “Why me?” to “What’s next?” We achieve this through a three-step process built on the pillars of:

Position Description:
The Regional Hub Coordinator will be responsible for the administration and delivery of Next Step’s NYC and Philadelphia-based programming. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Collaborate with the Recruitment and Partnership Coordinator, Program Director, other team members to support youth recruitment initiatives
- Build and maintain relationships with old and new hospital and community partners—attending and leading meetings as is needed
- Support the planning, organizing, and facilitation of Next Step’s regional residential Campferences (camp + conference) in the Tri-State area
- Facilitate hospital-based programming aimed at recruiting and engaging youth
- Design and lead group-facilitation transition-based programming with our community and hospital partners
- Assist in the supervision of Next Step’s STRIVE program in the region
Qualifications:
- Experience with chronic illness and/or familiarity with health-related issues pertinent to these populations
- Excellent organizational and computer skills
- Comfort working with diverse audiences
- Understands group formation and dynamics
- Experience facilitating residential group programming and events
- Experience working with adolescents and young adults
- Have experience working with health-related issues pertinent to this population
- Education and or significant experience with addressing areas of multicultural diversity, including but not limited to race, gender, sexual orientation, abilities/disabilities and intersectionality
- Exceptional communication skills and professional boundaries
- Experience with mentorship, guidance or other 1:1 skills development
- Possess a good sense of humor and work ethic
- Responsible and professional demeanor
- Willing to travel and work residential weekend programs when needed
- Ability to work independently and manage a fast-paced, all hands-on deck atmosphere
- Strong interest in public health, medicine and social justice issues
- Must have required vaccinations for residential programs by state law: MMR, Varicella, and TDAP.
- Due to the nature of the participants, we work with, who are often immunocompromised, we also require staff to be up to date with COVID-19 and flue vaccines
This is a 40-hour a week position and compensation starts at $55k plus benefits, commensurate with experience. Candidates with bachelor’s degree are preferred. Please email resume and cover letter if interested to blk@nextstepnet.org.
