Artist Statement
‘Bring It On’ means community, people who are facing similar battles coming together to make something beautiful. These people put their all into the song and created a safe space to express it. ‘Bring It On’ reminds us that even though there are hardships coming our way, we can pull through it. We just need to bring it on and show how strong we are, that nothing can break us down. ‘Life be lifing’, but this song helps lift us up and get us through.
The song means living in a community together and creating memories. It is a message about how to deal with the things that you’re going through. ‘Bring It On’ helps us realize that we’re prepared for the hard things. We built something out of nothing and worked together as a team to make something that sounds great. ‘Bring It On’ reminds us that when we go through problems, at the end it is going to be fine—there’s going to be light again. We can have confidence to take on the things that we struggle with, to fight through and respect others.
“Bring It On” tells us to be creative despite our differences, to make something great. We are capable of anything. Obviously life is going to throw challenges our way. ‘Bring It On’ means facing those curves head on instead of trying to run away.
Anyone who faces ongoing, unexpected obstacles should hear this song so they see some way to deal with it. ‘Bring It On’ is for people with chronic illness or anyone going through struggle, so they feel seen and heard. We hope that people with chronic illnesses, such as sickle cell or lupus, get to hear this song so they see we are all dealing with the same things in different ways. This song is for people who go through a lot and sometimes feel they just can’t go on.
We hope that those in power hear this song and realize that our challenges do not define us or bring us down. It’s for people who are in a sad place, who are depressed or feel alone. We hope it gives them a comfort.
We hope children with diagnoses hear it so that they know that there are people feeling what they feel. Sometimes, a lot of times, it is hard to find someone you relate to. We want these people to know that they can get something beautiful out of a challenging moment. Every mistake in art is a design. We want people to feel hope and love. We want them to hear other people’s voices. We want young adults and older teens to hear this song and to know that it is OK that, that they can face challenges. No matter what happens you are a strong person and can make through whatever hardships I have.
