Meet Casey, she’s a Team Next Step runner! Casey has worked with us for the past five years as our Nursing Director of our year-round programming for teens and young adults living with cancer, HIV and rare genetic disorders.
Casey isn’t a big runner but she didn’t hesitate to say “yes” when we asked if she wanted to run the 2019 Falmouth Road Race as a member of our team. The Falmouth Road Race is one of our favorite events of the year and also one of our biggest fundraisers. The donations raised by Team Next Step will help us to offer a safe community of young people and offer them life-changing community, music and mentorship programs.
We asked Casey why he is running the 2019 Falmouth Road Race in support of Next Step and here’s what she had to say:
“I have seen the Next Step community inspire many seriously ill young people to take their next step in their transition to adulthood in many ways some in more obvious ways than others, young people becoming their own advocates, others becoming mentors of their younger peers.
I’ve attempted (and quit) several times to be a runner. I haven’t really even exercised more than wrestling a toddler during diaper changes in the past few years. I am far from in shape, but I am willing to push myself and struggle thru this running thing if it means more people hear about the amazing work Next Step does for teens and young adults living with cancer, rare genetic conditions and HIV.
It may not be pretty, but 7 miles… I’m coming for you!”
Thank you so much Casey for pushing yourself for Next Step.
