Next Step’s music program, Song Studio, is a hit!

“Recording my song gave me a sense of possibility – that I am more than this disease and have a future to work for. – Next Step participant

Music is a key component of the free year-round programming we offer for teens and young adults living with cancer, HIV, or a rare genetic disorder. At our home in Cambridge, MA’s Central Square neighborhood, we have our very own state-of-the-art recording studio where young people living with cancer, HIV or a rare genetic disorder can find their voice and practice using it in our Song Studio music program.

In Song Studio, young people, ages 16-29, can work one-on-one with Kimberly (Next Step’s music therapist) to create their own original original song or a spoken word piece. Song Studio is an opportunity for young people to cope with the challenges of living with a serious illness, discover who they really are outside of their illness, and start planning their future.

LISTEN to original songs written and recorded by some of our young participants and Kimberly!
