Song and Artist History
“Just Believe” is a song written by a teen girl who lives and strives through Sickle Cell Anemia. Next Step created an internship for her during a school break with the goal of designing a podcast that identified the challenges she faces on a daily basis. During her Song Studio process the music therapist asked her to consider the solutions she puts into play to deal and work through her challenges. Her response was “Just believe – Just believe – Believe in yourself – Believe in your dream – Believe in what you mean to me – And if you think that it’s true – Then you just believe.” As her podcast theme was written, she was inspired by her lyric and decided to ask her friends if they would sing/record vocals for her. The A capella group “Smoove Impact” readily jumped into Song Studio to support their friend and improvised their harmonies based on the original theme she had written. Through production, her podcast was designed with the conversation centering on how she and her peers manage school, stigma and sickle cell – and maintaining their belief in themselves
