Next Step STRIVE is a FREE weekly after-school mentorship program for teens, ages 13-18, living with a chronic illness in Boston, Washington, D.C., New York City, Philadelphia and New Haven. As a STRIVE student, you’ll get one-on-one academic support and access to a community of peers in a safe and welcoming virtual environment.
Maybe you’re stuck on a class assignment. Or maybe you’ve missed a few days of school and don’t know where to start. At STRIVE, you can get one-on-one homework help from local college students. Our tutors are available for 45-minute virtual sessions several times per week.
“STRIVE changed my life. The mentors at Next Step showed up for me in a way I had never experienced!”
Managing school with a chronic illness can take a toll. It’s important to make time for fun and relaxation too. When you join STRIVE, you’ll meet new friends in your area who know what it’s like to live with a chronic illness.
And once a month, STRIVE students from Boston, Washington D.C. and New York City meet online for some real talk—and action! You might hear from a panel of young adults living with a chronic illness, learn tips for health management, work together on a community service project to lift the spirits of kids in the hospital or maybe even write a song together. Here’s what you can do at STRIVE each week:
- Get homework help when you need it
- Connect, destress and have fun with friends who get it
- Learn, collaborate and give back together like our lip sync video
- Talk about topics that matter with people who have walked in your shoes
