Meet Alice, the newest member of the Next Step team!

Alice is our new Events and Operations Coordinator. Alice was a corporate lawyer in Paris, France for the past six years and decided that she wanted to pursue a more meaningful and purpose-driven career which led her to wanting to work in the nonprofit field when she moved to Somerville, MA.

We recently sat down with Alice to get to know her better. Read our fun interview below!

 

What is your favorite quote?

“In the midst of winter, I finally learned that there was in me an invincible summer.” – Albert Camus

Can you describe your role at Next Step?

On the Event coordination side, I am involved in planning, organizing, and executing events to raise funds in support of our mission. On the Operations side, I oversee volunteer data, manage vendor relationships, maintaining supply inventory, and supporting communications systems.

What is your favorite thing about working at Next Step?

My favorite part of working at Next Step is knowing that I’m contributing to a meaningful mission while being part of a fun, kind and supportive team.

What is a random factoid about yourself?

I crossed Morocco and Ireland on horseback.

How did you find Next Step and what about the organization appealed to you?

I found Next Step on LinkedIn. What stood out to me was how it highlighted Next Step’s meaningful mission while also showcasing a fun work environment and the team’s sense of humor.

Why did you choose a nonprofit career path?

After working for six years as a corporate lawyer, I felt the need to pursue a more meaningful and purpose-driven career. In today’s world, I believe empathy and community engagement are more important than ever, and I’m committed to contributing to positive change in the lives of others.

We are really into music at Next Step. Do you have a favorite musician? Favorite concert you’ve attended? Do you plan an instrument or sing?

My favorite band is The Airborne Toxic Event. The best concert I attended was a French singer named Julien Dore. Unfortunately, I do not play an instrument or sing.

Do you have a favorite hobby during your free time outside of Next Step?

I love to do strength and circuit trainings.

What food do you miss most from Paris that just isn’t the same here in Boston?

Raclete in winter —melted raclete cheese served over boiled potatoes, accompanied by charcuterie.

How would you describe your first Next Step Campference experience?

I loved my first Campference experience. It was incredibly moving to see the amazing young people having fun while building a strong sense of community. I also had a blast joining in on all the games myself!
